ADIMALI: Thrissur Sahodaya won the CBSE State Kalotsav for the second consecutive time with 1,666 points after maintaining a lead throughout the event. Malabar Sahodaya and Kottayam Sahodaya took the next two spots with 1,589 and 1,533 points respectively . Many participants were hoping that Malabar would spoil Thrissur's dominance as the point difference between them was just 21 on Saturday.
Though Malabar Sahodaya scored maximum points in seven of the 11 categories, Thrissur maintained its lead by securing maximum points in categories that allocated more points.
Thrissur scored 492 points in literary items and 238 in dance events, while Malabar took the cake in band display and one act play, which fetched 50 points.
“Though there were some issues on Saturday which are being resolved we are happy that it was a success,“ said president of Kerala CBSE School Managements Association, T P M Ibrahim Khan, adding that discontent is unavoidable when there are over 26 Sahodayas, 7,574 participants, 189 judges and 144 events.
There were several participants and spectators who were sceptical about Thrissur's victory. “Thrissur has a strong Sahodaya that accommodates almost every school within the district. In Ernakulam, there are three operational Sahodayas and the schools are split between them,“ said an organizer.
The last day of the Kalotsav featured events such as folk dance, mono act, Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi. They also hosted the mime event in which over 30 teams participated over a 6-hour period. The event had joint winners as three teams were placed first, eight more getting second place and two securing the third.

A small group of irate mime trainers confronted the judges to protest against the results. Police immediately evacuated the judges. “This is ridiculous as there can't be 13 winners for an event,“ said a trainer. “I agree it is absurd. When we added the points from the three judges and this was the result. We proposed a revaluation, but most participants opposed the idea,“ said Francis K A, general secretary of Confederation of Kerala Sahodaya Complexes.
M G University PVC Sheena Shukkur and actor Anusree were the chief guests at the closing ceremony . After the events came to a close, there was a huge crowd onstage as Thrissur Sahodaya students rushed to celebrate their victory. Students from other Sahodayas too joined them.
