VARANASI: Padma Vibhushan and former chairman of Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) Krishnaswamy Kasturirangan asked the young graduates to make India a successful nation. He stressed on creating an environment conducive for growth of economy so as to ensure expansion of employment opportunities.
Delivering the convocation address at 38th convocation ceremony of Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith (MGKV) on Sunday, Kasturirangan said that India is at a critical juncture in its growth and development.
"We are already the seventh largest economy in the world and aspire to become major economic power. It is imperative to have a conducive environment with good employment opportunities to achieve that," he said.
Narrating anecdotes of failures of first two Augmented Satellite Launch Vehicles of ISRO, Kasturirangan said that despite sense of despondency, they did not allow this setback to override their resolve to succeed. The critical analysis and in-depth assessment of problems and technology and quality issues that we addressed, paved way for success of recent generation of PSLVs and GSLVs. "I believe that life can teach you more from failure than success," he said, terming India's Remote Sensing Satellite Programme as an example of self-confidence to achieve the impossible.
Kasturirangan also highlighted immense possibilities in entrepreneurship and said that the country was in midst of a start-up boom.
Governor and MGKV chancellor Ram Naik, who presided over the function, expressed happiness over the triumph of girl student. "I was apprised that of 54 gold medalists, 32 were girls and 22 boys. This is an indicator of progress in women empowerment and also for boys that they should work hard " he said.
Naik asked the gathering to observe a minute silence for the people who lost their lives in Patna-Indore train derailment on Sunday.

He then unfolded his mantra for success and asked the students to remember to smile at all times, appreciate the work of others, never belittle others and understand that there is always a better way of doing things.
A total of 97,692 degrees were awarded to the students at graduate and post graduate level during the convocation function on Sunday. Vibhuti Narayan Singh Smriti gold medal was conferred to Ruchika Paranjape of department of music.
Besides, 54 gold medals were awarded at different levels of higher education. Among them, three gold medals were given in sports category of hockey, wrestling and weightlifting.
