RAJKOT/PALANPUR: Cops on Sunday seized over Rs 1.35 crore in cash in two separate incidents in Rajkot and Himmatnagar in Sabarkantha district.
A total of three persons were arrested, one from Rajkot and two in Sabarkantha.
Satish Kalola, a businessman from Gondal town was arrested with Rs 1.15 crore in cash in now demonetised Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes. He was held from Toplane Residency on Rahiya Road.
The cash was hidden in his SUV.
"When asked about the cash, Kalola said that he had come to exchange the notes," said police inspector K K Zala of University police station.
He said that the cash was handed over to the officials of the income tax department who are also interrogating Kalola.
In the second instance, police seized over Rs 16.20 lakh in cash, which included 409 new Rs 2,000 notes from a car at Himmatnagar in Sabarkantha district, which, they said, was meant to be swapped for defunct notes at a commission.

The notes in denominations of Rs 2,000, Rs 100, Rs 50, Rs 20 and Rs 10 were to be exchanged with demonetised notes for 35 per cent commission," D D Parmar, in-charge police inspector of Local Crime Branch, said.
Those arrested have been identified as Mayank Patel (28) and Vishal Panchal (28).
Two others, Nilesh Patel and Jitu Patel, are absconding, Parmar said.
