Rocking and rolling @ XIMB

X pressions’16, the annual B-school event of Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB), was an interesting mix of talent and fun. The three-day event that concluded last week had something for everyone, be it panel discussions, paper presentations, case studies, fashion show, song and dance competition or a host of cultural events.

MOVES LIKE JAGGER: There was
something for everyone at XIMB’s Xpressions’16

One of the most anticipated events in Odisha, Xpressions provides management students from across the country a unique platform to measure their managerial skills and learn more about the corporate world.

It witnessed a huge participation of students from various B-schools like XLRI, IIM Lucknow, IIM Shillong, Great Lakes Institute of Management, IMT Ghaziabad, among others.  The major attraction was the celebrity night, which saw the ace musical trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy performing some of their best songs.

Xpressions’16 kicked off with Gladiator, Kurukshetra, Skill City and Helios, the flagship mega events by the gaming committees of the institution. Besides, the Model United Nations event was organised by XIMB’s oratory club, Speak Up. It was a UN simulation competition where students would learn about diplomacy and international relations.

‘Case In Point’ and ‘Case Connect’, the two case study competitions also had their initial rounds. These events were followed by ‘Nirnay’, an in-house business simulation game conducted by X-Ops, XIMB’s operations committee.
Taking a detour from business events towards the artistic sphere, Xpressions’16 also hosted its solo song competition ‘Goonj’, painting competition ‘Paint@XIMB’ and the online treasure hunt event ‘Parikrama’, which witnessed an enthusiastic participation.

Amalgamating fun and physique, Foot of Fury (event by IRC) — a crazy, fun-filled game of HUMAN FOOSBALL with an international twist - was organised for the first time as a part of the fest. The event was won by Team ‘Brownies’ from XIMB.

Decibelz, XIMB’s band-hunt competition, was won by Hidden Identity, a band based in Kolkata. The highlight of the inaugural day was an enthralling performance by Lagori, a Bangalore-based folk-rock fusion band, who served its unique flavour of music to the crowd.

The second day witnessed the final rounds of Kurukshetra’s Chakravyuh and Helios. Subsequent rounds of Gladiator and Skill City were also held. The case-study competitions, Maven and M-Power, were won by Kshitish Sahoo and Deepayan Pattnaik from XIMB (Maven) and the team ‘Loyal Stags’, consisting of Raghav Dhanuja and Arnav Khanna from IIM Shillong (M-Power) respectively. Trade Wars, a unique online trading simulation game, was won by Sourav Dalmia and Akshay Tripathi from XIMB.
