The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Alumni Association Qatar chapter, organised Udaan an Aligs' family gathering recently. Senior Alig Jawed Ahmed attended the event as the chief guest, while prominent businessman Syed Abdul Hye was the guest of honour.
More than 150 people attended the function. Samreen Zafar greeted the attendees while Alia Mazhar began proceedings with the recitation of a verse from the Holy Quran. Nazia Ziauddin gave a speech stressing the importance of sports.
Ahmed appreciated the importance Aligs give to sports events and encouraged holding more such events. Hye thanked the organisers of Udaan 2016 and stressed the significance of sports in maintaining a fit and healthy body.
A friendly cricket match was played between AMU Warriors and AMU Rangers. The toss was won by AMU Warriors who elected to bat first. In the allotted 12 overs Warriors managed to score 79 runs, thus giving the target of 80 runs to the Rangers.
AMU Warriors won the match by 9 runs. Awards were presented by Amuaaq advisors Shahid Yar Khan and Ali Imran to Imtiaz Mallick (Winning Team Captain), Umar Ashraf (Man of the Match), Asif Khan (Best Batsman & Maximum Number of Sixes), Abdullah (Best Bowler) and Syed Zakiruddin (Best Fielder).
The ladies conducted sports activities for children. In the ladies sports activities the winners were Tehreema, Habiba Faheem, Shabana Ahmed, Tabassum & Hina Sarwar in different categories.
The sports event was followed by dinner. Nida Faizan proposed the vote of thanks.
