BATHINDA: Contractual government employees blocked the Bathinda-Barnala highway in Rampura town of Bathinda on Sunday to demand the regularization of their services..
Commuters had a tough time and had to take detours to reach their destinations. Earlier, contractual employees had blocked a road in Bathinda on October 13 and had held a rally at chief minister Parkash Singh Badal' assembly constituency of Lambi on September 18.

Theka Mulazam Sangharsh Morcha, a body of contractual staff from 25 government bodies, organized the protest. A leader of the employees' body, Didar Singh, said they had been protesting regularization of their services for long, but the state government was not conceding to their demands.
"We will continue protesting till our services are not regularized," he said.
Earlier, the employees had met the CM on September 20, but nothing came of it.
Didar Singh said the employees had decided to oppose the SAD-BJP alliance in the upcoming elections if their demand for regularization of services was not met. "We will make the lives of Akali leaders miserable, as the state government has made ours by making us to work on meagre salaries ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 15,000 a month," he added.
