NDRF deploys five teams, rescues 54
NEW DELHI: The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed more than 200 personnel with modern equipment at the train derailment site in Kanpur for the rescue operation. The force is learnt to have rescued 54 passengers from the mangled bogeys of the Indore-Patna Express.
Five NDRF teams were deployed after home minister Rajnath Singh instructed its chief R K Pachnanda. Some additional teams were put on standby.
Of the five teams, one comprising 35 personnel immediately rushed to the site at 5.30 am from its regional response centre (RRC) in Lucknow and reached there at 8.10 am.
Two more teams comprising of 79 personnel from Varanasi reached Kanpur within hours. To strengthen the rescue operations, two teams comprising 75 personnel were airlifted from Hindon airbase in Ghaziabad.
