East London – A South African Police Service (SAPS) warrant officer and the owner of an East London-based gearbox repair business were arrested on Friday and appeared in the Zwelitsha Magistrate’s Court on fraud charges, the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) said.

It was alleged that during June 2013 the warrant officer, who was stationed at the Bhisho SAPS garage, instructed another local vehicle repair company to repair an SAPS vehicle, Captain Anelisa Feni said.

But instead, he allegedly signed an invoice for the businessman’s company to be paid an undisclosed amount for the job.

The two accused, both 43, were released by the court on warning and their next court appearance would be on January 23, Feni said.
