Sidana ran a makeshift shop of readymade garments at Shivpuri area.

The Salem Tabri Police has filed the proceedings under Section 174 (police to enquire and report on suicide) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) in this context.

Priti Sidana, wife of the deceased, said that she along with her children had gone to a shrine to pay their obeisance. When they returned, she was shocked to see the body of her husband hanging from the fan. She immediately alerted the police.

Priti told the police that her husband had Rs 50,000 in scraped currency, which he wanted to exchange. He had been going to bank for the past four days, but failed to exchange it following which he was under depression. She added his business was also running low.

The deceased is survived by wife, 16-year-old son Mayank who is in Class 12, and 12-year-old daughter Rakhi, a student of Class 8.

Commissioner of police Jatinder Singh Aulakh said the man was facing financial crisis. There is no such evidence that he failed to exchange his currency after demonetisation. The police have been probing claims of the family.

Last wish

In the suicide note, Anil Kumar mentioned that he is ending his life following his own wish as his business is running low. Addressing his family, he said that no money should be spent on rituals after his death. He wished that Rs 50,000, for which he has committed suicide, should not be spent.
