With a major impact following the implementation of the demonetisation policy, Superintendent of police, Shailendra Prasad Burnwal of Dhumka, Jharkhand had conducted raids at three different locations and recovered Rs 93 lakhs in cash. The police action came after information on the exchange of one crore in currency notes at the Dumka Head Post Office on Friday night.
The police team led by SP Shailendra Prasad carried out raids at the house of a clerk of the Dumka Post Office, and recovered Rs 45 lakhs in currency notes of the denomination Rs 50 and Rs 100. In another raid, the police team recovered demonetised notes worth Rs 16.5 lakh and Rs 31.5 lakh from the houses of Sibu Patwari and his brother Snil Patwari.
The demonetisation policy was initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi , on November 8, in the wake of the rise in the circulation of black money in the country. Following the implementation of the anti-graft policy, there had been a ban on currency notes of the denomination Rs 500 and Rs 1,000. Public distress erupted since the initiation of the note-ban policy, with people desperately trying to replace their old currency notes with new ones, thereby making attempts to save their currency notes from turning into useless pieces of papers.
Since the implementation of the policy, opposition parties had locked horns with the central government with leaders blaming the Modi government for creating chaotic situation among the common people of the country. The political heat over the demonetisation policy also reached the parliament, with the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha facing repeated adjournments for three days in a row till Friday. The Lok Sabha had been adjourned till Monday following arguements from opposition leaders, trying to corner the ruling party in the parliamentary house.
