Patna-Indore Train Accident: Government should focus more on operations of Railways, says Dinesh Trivedi

Trinamool Congress leader and former Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi on Sunday said that the the derailment of the Patna-Indore express early morning was unfortunate and instead of blame game now is the time to see that maximum lives of those admitted in the hospital are saved. He added that time has come for the government to focus more on operations of Railways rather than cosmetic things.

Condemning the tragedy, his successor and part colleague Mukul Roy said that the recent step by the governmnet to not to have any Railway budget from next year is quite unfortunate , due too which people of the country are quite unfortunate.

In the early morning on Sunday, fourteen coaches of the Patna-Indore Express was derailed in Pukharayan town, 60 km from Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur, in which at least 96 passengers were dead, more than 200 are injured in the mishap. The rescue operations are still on at the spot.

The Centre has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 3.5 lakh for the kin of the deceased and Rs 50 thousand for those with grievous injuries and Rs 25 thousand for those with minor injuries.

While the Uttar Pradesh government has announced a sum of Rs 5 lakh to deceased families, Rs 50 thousand for seriously injured people and Rs 25 thousand for people with minor injuries, Madhy Pradesh Governmnet will give Rs 2 lakhs compensation for the families of deceased; Rs 50,000 for those critically injured.

Earlier in the day while condemning the incident Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu is closely monitoring the situation.
