Rs 11.65 cr found in SUV shocks police in Nagda
INDORE: Policemen posted at bypass road in Nagda town were in for a surprise on Saturday when they found Rs 11.65 crore in Rs 500 and Rs 1000 denomination currency notes stacked in an SUV. It was later found out that the money was collected in Corporation Bank in Mandsaur and was being transported to a larger bank branch in Indore in the SUV without any armed escort.
Situation turned tense at a police check post in Nagda when the SUV was stopped, following a complaint by a biker that it was being driven rashly.

Policemen found that the SUV carried a metal box, in which Rs 11,65 crore were being carried by the passengers. The vehicle was immediately taken to Nagda police station where station in-charge Ajay Verma interrogated the passengers. Police said that one of the passengers identified himself as Ashwin Rai, assistant manager of Corporation Bank in Mandsaur. He claimed that he was carrying the money collected during currency exchange in his bank branch in last 10 days, to a larger bank branch at Vijay Nagar in Indore.
Ujjain superintendent of police (Rural) Dr Shivrdayal said Rai’s antecedents were verified and senior officials of the bank confirmed that it was the money being transported to Indore. Two armed guards were sent with the SUV to take the money to Indore. The entire process was recorded through a camera, before the SUV was allowed to go, he said adding “It was strange that such a large sum was being carried without armed escort.”
