HYDERABAD: Keeping in view of the recent trouble on account of protests in parts of Old City against 'blasphemous' images floating on social media, the south zone (SZ) police on Friday have enhanced security arrangements to handle any such fresh incidents.
Rapid Action Force was deployed near Mecca Masjid. "We have also made large-scale security arrangements near Charminar" said Charminar ACP K Ashok Chakravarthy.
Tension prevailed in Eidi Bazaar on November 13 after youths protested against an objectionable image floating on social media. They claim that cops delayed in registering an FIR. Cops filed three cases after arresting MBT activist Mohammed Abdul Habeeb who was accused for inciting the mob to stage protests. He is currently out on bail.
The SZ DCP, V Satyanarayana, has pegged the cause of trouble to the unrest over the contentious issue of Uniform Civil Code and triple talaq. He also attributed it to the Centre's demonetization move. City police commissioner M Mahender Reddy has convened a meeting with community elders and religious scholars in Purani Haveli on Saturday. It is likely this issue will be discussed.
