New Mortal Kombat Movie in Talks With Director Behind Amazing PS3 Ad

Commercials director Simon McQuoid could direct the new Mortal Kombat movie, according to a report from Variety today. He may not be a household name, but you may be familiar with his work.

McQuoid directed the incredible 2011 PlayStation 3 ad "Michael," which was part of Sony's "Long Live Play" campaign. Watch the video again in the embed below. He also directed a Duracell Star Wars commercial and a Halo spot. You can see more of his work at his website.

The 1995 Mortal Kombat film from Paul W.S. Anderson made $70 million, while 1997 sequel Mortal Kombat: Annihilation did not do as well, with Warner Bros. scrapping plans for more installments. The company eventually revived the series, with the Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series being the latest installment.

Producer James Wan, who directed Furious 7, Saw, and The Conjuring, said this summer that Warner Bros. doesn't plan to rush the film out at the expense of quality.

The latest Mortal Kombat game was 2015's Mortal Kombat X. The series, created by Ed Boon, is developed out of the Warner Bros.-owned Chicago studio, NetherRealm.
