If you go by Sruthi Hariharan's track record, you'll realise she's one of those few actors, who has garnered appreciation for playing an array of different roles.
With her next release Madha Mathu Manasi, Sruthi reveals to City Express, that this is her only second out-and-out commercial venture and credits her co-star on the same.
It is a Prajwal Devaraj film. The film started its shooting schedule around one-and-half-years ago and sees its release in theatres now. “If one wants a film to be made and released in the same year, the distribution system should be strong, but unfortunately that was not the case. Distributors seem to favour films with big start cast. But like every actor says, release is not in my hands,” says Sruthi.
Recalling her association with Madha Mathu Manasi, Sruthi says, “I signed this film for it had a Mano Murthy tag, a music director turning producer."
Sruthi, who has always added value to her films through her talent, tells us Maada Mathu Manasi is where she was completely a 'director's actor'. The performance is portrayed in Sathish Pradhan's vision.
"If you ask me, what is my contribution apart from acting, I would say nothing because everything you see about me or the character in the film is done the way Sathish wanted it," she states.
She plays a blind character, which came as a surprise to the actor initially. "Before signing the film, I did not know it. They told me this only after two schedules. It was a challenge to play a blind girl. Since, I don't watch my monitor, I am not aware of how it has turned out to be. I completely trust Sathish on this" says Sruthi, who did gets some tips to play the role.
"The director instructed me neither to blink much or look at my co-actor and act. I diligently followed," she says.
She adds that she was in her own bubble while playing a blind girl.
Meanwhile, Sruthi admits she did not get that hundred per cent creative satisfaction with Madha Mathu Manasi. Reason? She was not able to dub for the film. "I learnt Kannada to be a better actor, but if you don't let me give my own voice, 50 per cent of my performance is lost," she says.
