Sadhvi Deva Thakur, 26, leader of All India Hindu Mahasabha, who was on the run after being booked for allegedly killing a woman and injuring four others in a celebratory firing during a wedding on November 15, surrendered before Karnal court Friday. Judicial magistrate Harish Sabbarwal sent her to five days police remand. Although Karnal police had conducted raids at many places since November 15 but had not been able to arrest Thakur and her accomplices.

SHO of Karnal city police station, Inspector Mohan Lal said, “Sadhvi has told us that she has three licensed weapons and her brother also has a weapon. We are investigating the case.” The SHO informed that Sadhvi has a ashram at Brass village in Karnal and police is carrying out the raids to arrest Sadhvi’s six accomplices who are on the run and to recover the vehicle used during the day of crime. Questioned as to how many licensed weapons are there with people in Sadhvi’s ashram, the SHO told that it is yet to be investigated.”

The firing incident had occurred at Savitri Marriage Palace in Karnal where Thakur accompanied by around six persons carrying arms had come to attend the marriage ceremony. In the firing one Suman (50) had succumbed to her injuries. Sadhvi had many a times in the past remained in controversy for her statements be it in case of Muslims and Christians to undergo sterilisation to check increase in their population or placing idols of Hindu Gods in Mosques and Churches.
