PM Narendra Modi in his speech while addressing the Rail Vikas Shivir at Surajkund via video conferencing laid out his vision for the Indian Railways today. Among the foremost of these were plans to ensure the Railways take the mantra of ‘gati’ (speed) and ‘pragati’ (development) to heart. He also said that the lineage between him and the Railways goes a long way back saying, “My childhood was spent on rail platforms. That is all the more reason I want to transform railways.” Here is what PM Modi said at the event:
1. Saari duniya ki rail badal gayi, kya kaaran hai ki hum ek seema mein bandh gaye hain
2. Desh ko gati chahiye toh bhi rail se milegi aur pragati chahiye to bhi rail se milegi
3. This is a technology driven century. Innovation is important. Railways has to be about both ‘Gati’ and ‘Pragati’
4. Desh me pragati lane ke liye zaruri hai ke hamara railway pragati kare
5. Each official doing their own work is good but we also have to work together & think about how we want the Railways to be
6. Our Railways has to develop and be financially strong. This benefits India and particularly those working for the Railways
7. Usually the core focus of Rail budgets was- which MP was pleased by being given more stops in his/her seat, additional coaches etc
8. The focus of our Rail Budgets has never been politics. We have worked towards a paradigm shift in the Railways
9. The century has changed and so must the systems in our Railways. I am confident the team that we have can achieve this
10. Mera rail se bahut purana naata hai, mera bachpan rail ki patri par guzra hai. Main aapki tarah rail wala hi hu
