Panasonic Prepping Up To Launch Megaphone With Built-In Translator

It can translate Nihongo to English, Chinese, and Korean.

 

The land of rising Sun and Godzilla is a tourist hotspot. While it is fun place to be, sometimes it becomes problematic for the visitors to put up with the extensive use of Nihongo. To address this problem to a certain extent, Panasonic has developed a megaphone that translates your announcement on the fly. Dubbed as Megahonyaku, can translate Japanese words in English, Chinese, and Korean. You can bypass talking in the megaphone by feeding in the sentence via touchscreen.



The Megahonyaku can be useful at public places such as railway stations, malls, and airports. Don't expect it to be your full-fledged translator though, as it is limited to 300 preset sentences in Japanese that are commonly used to raise caution. There is however an option to add more phrases by connecting to the Internet. Panasonic claims that the user friendly product can work function regardless of background noise.

The Megahonyaku will release on 20th of December in Japan. The price is expected to be under ¥20,000 (approx Rs 12,500) per month on a three-year contract. This will include the product, online service, future updates, and maintenance.
