Man standing in bank queue dies after taken ill

A 70-year-old man standing in the queue for getting his now-invalid notes exchanged died after he was taken seriously ill here.

Hathras, Nov 18: A 70-year-old man standing in the queue for getting his now-invalid notes exchanged died after he was taken seriously ill here.

Siyaram, resident of Balapatti, who had been standing in the queue for the past three days, failing to get his old notes exchanged was taken seriously ill yesterday and was rushed to hospital where he died, Superintendent of Police Dilip Kumar Srivastava said today.

The victim had been standing in the queue before the Canara Bank branch near Burz wala Kuan, the SP said, adding that police has been deployed in view of huge crowds collecting in front of banks.

Meanwhile, the locals have sent a fax message to the Prime Minister's Office in New Delhi demanding a compensation of Rs 20 lakhs for the family of the deceased.

In a seperate incident, a cashier at SBI's Ambhajari branch passed away at work after a heart attack.

Prime Minister Modi, had on November 8, announced that all Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 rupee notes would cease to be valid in all forms of transactions in a bid to tackle hoarding of black money, corruption and terror financing.

The government's move has become a major inconenience to the people, who have been queuing in front of banks and ATMs for lower denomination notes.
