2008 Ahmedabad Blast - Brother of blast accused held for selling pistol

VADODARA: The special operations group (SOG) arrested Azharuddin alias Azzu Sheikh for selling a Mauser pistol to a resident of Yakutpura. Sheikh is brother of Iqbal Sheikh, who is an accused in the 2008 Ahmedabad blasts and is lodged in Sabarmati Jail in Ahmedabad. The police said that Sheikh had sold the pistol to Waseem Mirza some time ago. Sheikh was remanded to four days of police custody and Mirza has been sent to one day of police remand by a local court.
“We nabbed Mirza af ter we got information that we he was carrying a pistol.During his questioning, Mirza revealed that he had purchased the weapon from Sheikh who stays near Yakutpura,“ said SOG police inspector, H M Vyas.
The police said that Sheikh may be having wea pons or he may have sold to many people in past. ple in past.
“He is brother of the accused in Ahmedabad blasts so we are trying to ascertain whether Sheikh is connected with any terror network,“ Vyas told TOI.
The SOG has seized six pistols in the last six days and arrested nine persons.
