Two arrested for angadia robbery

In a major breakthrough on Wednesday in the robbery of an angadia employee that took place at Paldi, two days before Diwali, city crime branch arrested Prabhu Meena, resident of Vatva and Kanu Solanki of Shaherkotda.

AHMEDABAD: In a major breakthrough on Wednesday in the robbery of an angadia employee that took place at Paldi, two days before Diwali, city crime branch arrested Prabhu Meena, resident of Vatva and Kanu Solanki of Shaherkotda. Cops have recovered booty worth Rs 22 lakh including rough diamonds, weapons and bikes used in the crime from the duo.
During interrogation of the accused, it has come to light that four others were involved in the crime.
Among them, Sharifkhan of Mumbai and Salim of Ramol have been involved in four other angadia robberies, including a Rs 37-lakh robbery at Bayad in July 2016.
They also have 10 offences of chain snatching and two incidents of vehicles thefts against them.“The gang had committed angadia robberies in Bayad, Gandhinagar and Bapunagar while most of the chain-snatching incidents were committed in Vastrapur, Satellite, Ghatlodia, Paldi, Khadia and Maninagar areas,“ said a crime branch official. It is worthy to note that Mukesh Patel, an employee with Madhav Magan Angadia firm was robbed at knifepoint on October 10 by the accused.
“It was difficult for us to track them, as they were wearing helmets to hide their faces. However inspection of CCTV footage of different areas revealed their last location at Rangolinagar in Ramol,“ said J K Bhatt, joint commissioner of police, crime branch. “We had deployed policemen in plain clothes in the area since Diwali, and finally on Wednesday night, we got a tip off about the location of the accused,“ Bhatt added. Deepan Bhadran, DCP , crime branch, said Meena had come to Ahmedabad from Rajasthan in 1990, and at first, he used to steal chemicals and later formed a gang with one Shravansingh alias Sanjay.
