MYSURU: District minister H C Mahadevappa said that chief minister Siddaramaiah has expressed plans to construct Kanakadasa Bhavan and a statue of the saint poet in Mysuru.
Mahadevappa, who was addressing the gathering at Kalamandira on Thursday as part of 529th Kanakadasa Jayanti which was organized by the district administration in association with Kanakadasa Jayanthothsava Samithi, said that the 15th century revolutionary poet Kanakadasa advocated equality and defied caste system.

Writer Kabbinale Vasantha Bharadwaj spoke on the life and works of Kanakadasa.
Earlier, hundreds of people participated in the cultural procession including nandidwaja, somana kunitha, veeragaase, kolata and tableaux depicting the life and preachings of the saint.
Mahadevappa who inaugurated the procession near the north gate of Mysuru Palace, danced to the folk music with other leaders. The procession passed through major commercial areas like Sayyaji Rao Road, NS Road and D Devaraj Urs Road before culminating at Kalamandir.
Mayor BL Byrappa, MLA MK Somashekar, deputy commissioner D Randeep and Kaginele Kanakagurupeeta Shivanandapuri Swami were present.
