Pay-and-use toilets in Parel in race to see which is cleanest: Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation

“In this competition, the cleanliness around and inside the public toilet, the use of the bleaching powder, its upkeep will be seen. Based on this, the top five NGOs who maintain these public toilets will be given appreciation letters. It will not only encourage them to maintain the cleanliness but will also result in a large number people using it,” said Vishwas Mote, assistant municipal commissioner of F (South) ward.

Mote further said the numerous measures are being taken in the ward to increase cleanliness. “We have been focusing on the complete solid waste collection and scientific processing. Many programmes have been held to create awareness among people about maintaining cleanliness.

Though the construction work of public toilets is underway, we have deployed mobile toilets at certain places to stop open defecation,” he added. Another official said the F South ward, which covers Parel, Lalbaug and Sewri areas, is likely to be declared open defecation free on Saturday.
