The portrait of Jasjit Singh Jammu, killed in police firing during a protest against the removal of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale’s poster, finds a place in the Golden Temple’s Central Sikh Museum.

Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh unveiled the portrait. It finds a place along with portraits of Sikh warriors who contributed to the Sikh struggle.

Giani Gurbachan accorded Jasjit a martyr status.

“Siropas” (robe of honour) were presented to his father Narvir Singh, mother Raj Kaur and Sikh Naujawan Sabha leader Ajmeet Singh.

Golden Temple head priest Jagtar Singh, SGPC secretary Roop Singh and executive committee member Ram Singh were also present.

On June 4, 2015, the Jammu Police had resorted to lathicharge and teargas shelling after Sikh youths armed with sticks and kirpans converged on the Satwari-RS Pura road and blocked traffic. They were protesting against the removal of Bhindranwale’s posters ahead of his death anniversary on June 6.

Jasjit Singh was hit by a bullet in the head and reportedly died on the spot, while several others were hurt.
