While praising the Centre’s decision on demonetisation, Maurya said: “Aap sab jaante hain… Pakistan aatankvadiyon ko paida karne ki factory chalata tha aur uska ek centre Azamgarh mein bhi bana ke rakhne ka kaam karta tha. Us Pakistan ki aatankvadi paida karne ki factory bandh ho gayi… nakli note banane ki factory chal rahi thi woh bandh ho gai” (You all know Pakistan was running a factory of producing terrorists and used to also have one of its centres in Azamgarh… The factory has been closed. BJP MP from Gorakhpur, Yogi Adityanath, in his speech claimed that Azamgarh’s ancient name was ‘Aryamgarh’. “We have to restore its ancient identity. Azamgarh’s reputation has changed… When a youth from the district goes to any part of the world, hotels deny him accommodation and others do not give him house on rent… Azamgarh was the land of monks and renowned writers but at present, the district’s reputation is not hidden from anyone,” he said.

Festive offer

“Who are the people who defamed this district as synonym for terrorism? To change its name and restore its identity, Amit Shah is present here with us,” Adityanath said in Azamgarh — the Lok Sabha constituency of SP president Mulayam Singh Yadav. The MP said when the name of some persons from Azamgarh had surfaced in the Batla House incident, he had visited the district. “Some people tried to attack me but I did not run away… Maine kaha ki pehle humle walo ko thokenge aur tab aage badhenge (I said we will first eliminate the attackers and then proceed),” added Adityanath.
