The Chhattisgarh police have detained two men while they were trying to deposit demonetised notes worth over 90 lakh at a bank in Raipur. Officials said the two were held after the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) was tipped off about the duo’s possible Maoist links.
“The SIB had information that a large consignment of cash was to be shifted by urban couriers of the Maoists into (bank) accounts,” an officer said.
Officials said the money has been handed over to the Income Tax Department. They added that the two, who are being questioned, are tobacco businessmen. “They are being asked to explain the source of 90 lakh in cash. Further investigations are underway,” the officer said.
