No cash, no ‘tilak’ in Farrukhabad

No cash, no ‘tilak’ in Farrukhabad
Kanpur: The currency crisis has hitting marriage and ‘tilak’ functions.
A man from Farrukhabad district cancelled his son’s wedding owing to the fact that the girl’s family gave him a cheque instead of cash as dowry.
The girl’s father approached Kotwali police and filed a case against him.
Jaswant Yadav, a native of Shringirampur, who fixed his daughter’s wedding with Nekpur Chaurasi resident Bheeshma Singh’s son, has lodged a complaint accusing the would-be groom’s family of refusing for marriage on the flimsy grounds of non-payment of cash.

Preparations for the ‘tilak’ ceremony was on in full swing at the residence of Jaswant Yadav at Shringirampur, in Farrukhabad on Wednesday evening. But suddenly, things began to go wrong. The groom’s father had refused to accept the cheque of Rs 1.30 lakh and instead he wanted money in cash.
The ‘tilak’ ceremony was under way at my house yesterday. There was no money, particularly notes of lower denominations left at home, we decided to give them a cheque. However, they told me to give cash and refused to accept the cheque."
“They insulted us and called off the ‘tilak’ over such a flimsy grounds. I was shattered. We tried to convince them of giving the cash soon but they refused to budge,” Jaswant said.
Station officer of Kotwali police Anup Kumar said the ‘tilak’ was fixed for Wednesday. The girl’s side has lodged a complaint. Later, a ‘panchayat’ was convened by elders and the boy’s side agreed to return the gifts and reimburse the expenses incurred by the family of the girl on ‘tilak’ arrangements.
