TORONTO, ON --(Marketwired - November 17, 2016) - Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario (CPA Ontario) is pleased to announce the inaugural election of 59 members as Fellows as a unified body. Fellows are bestowed with the right to use the prestigious FCPA designation, the profession's highest distinction, in recognition of their significant career achievements and contributions to their community.

The new FCPAs represent a broad cross-section of skills and expertise from a range of industries and sectors across Ontario. They include CEOs, CFOs and Treasurers of some of Canada's largest financial institutions, accounting firms, insurers and public companies, to government ministers, public servants, university professors and leaders in the healthcare and not-for-profit sectors.

"We are extremely proud to count these Fellows as members of the accounting profession," said Carol Wilding, FCPA, FCA, President and CEO of CPA Ontario. "Each and every one of them have made a valuable contribution to their companies and their communities and their achievements reflect the depth and diversity of the profession and the opportunity it affords to make a difference."

This year's Fellows, who will be honoured at a presentation ceremony and dinner today in Toronto, reflect the rich diversity of the profession, with deep experience in areas ranging from audit, tax and reporting standards to M&A, securities filings, forensic accounting, succession and estate planning and education, among others.

"It is a unique privilege for members of our profession to receive the FCPA distinction," said Johanne Charbonneau, FCPA, FCGA, Chair of CPA Ontario's Council. "Fellows are nominated and elected by their peers in recognition of their outstanding achievements, and this year's exceptional cohort reflects the breadth and talent of our profession as well as the esteem with which they are held."
