Akshara yatra begins in Thiruvananthapuram

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : State institute of children's literature launched Akshara yatra here on Wednesday. The initiative was inaugurated by education minister C Raveendranath at Christ nagar school,Vellayambalam.
The mission aims at providing books for all children, said Palliyara Sreedharan, director of state institute of children's literature. The institute will conduct book expo at 50% discount, he said.
Akshara yatra will be held in 10 schools in the district.Talks, literary competitions will be held in schools as part of Akshara yatra.
Education minister said that all languages have their own history and importance. A person's identity is his native language. It is sad that people forget this, the minister said.
