Colva police arrest nine persons to patronize hotels in the area

Colva police on Wednesday arrested nine persons soliciting tourists from Colva to patronize hotels in the area. They were held under provisions contained in the Tourism Act after local traders and businessmen took exception to their activities and complained.

COLVA: Colva police on Wednesday arrested nine persons soliciting tourists from Colva to patronize hotels in the area. They were held under provisions contained in the Tourism Act after local traders and businessmen took exception to their activities and complained. Police sources said the nine touts will be produced before the tourism department on Thursday for further action.

One held for possessing ganja: Porvorim police on Wednesday arrested Pradip Mhetar, 32, a native of Ratnagiri, for allegedly possessing 1.6kg of marijuana (ganja) estimated to be worth 1.65 lakh. Mhetar was arrested near Holy Family Church, Porvorim, following a tip-off that he was planning on delivering the narcotic substance to a buyer, police said. The team, led by PI Jivba Dalvi and comprising PSI Vishwajit Chodankar, constables Ajay Korgaonkar, Siddesh Naik and Keshav Patekar conducted the raid under the supervision of SP North, Umesh Gaonkar, and SDPO Nelson Albuquerque.
Duo dupes Bambolim woman: Ravina Faterpekar, 21, a resident of Bambolim, in a complaint to the Panaji police stated that she was cheated of 42,200 by two men who promised to give her a job at a private bank. Faterpekar said Raj Verma and Ankit Gupta approached her online with an offer for the post of a junior accountant. The duo then tricked her into depositing 15,000, 15,500, 9,200 and 2,500 on separate occasions between November 3 and 8.
