The event was held with the support of the Microbiology Department of the Hazara University, health security partners, Pakistan Biological Safety Association and young ambassador of the American Society of Microbiology.
Speaking to participants at the inaugural session, HU VC Professor Dr Muhammad Idrees said that the ever-increasing process of industrial and infrastructural development exposed humans and the natural environment to chemical and industrial waste.
He said the prevailing situation demanded that scientists and researchers prepare to monitor and combat chemical-related hazards.
Samreen Sarwar, technical adviser to the young ambassador of the American Society of Microbiology, said her organisation has 2,000 members in Pakistan and a functional resource centre.
