Bhiwani, November 16
Two days after a statue of Dr BR Ambedkar was desecrated by unidentified persons at Ninan Khurd village of the district, activists of Dalit organisations today staged a protest at Ghantaghar Chowk here and burnt an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Notably, some unidentified persons had garlanded the Ambedkar’s statue with shoes on the night of November 14. The incident triggered tension in the village.
Dalbir Umra, a Congress leader who led the protest, told mediapersons that the miscreants had not been arrested by the police so far. He said they had given a two-day ultimatum to the police to nab the accused.
Protesters also condemned the BJP Government for allegedly not ensuring the safety and security of Dalit community icons. They warned of stir if the police failed to arrest the accused in two days.
The police said they had registered a case into the incident and were making efforts to arrest the accused.
