Ranji Trophy: At 34, Anupam Sanklecha, aims at taking 40 wickets in this season

Recalling his struggling days, Anupam Sanklecha revealed that being extremely frustrated he even thought of quitting cricket.

New Delhi, Nov 16: He had participated in Indian Cricket League (ICL), but it came to an end after it was labelled as the rebel league by the BCCI. Since then, Anupam Sanklecha had tough time to return to the main stream cricket.

He was not getting scope of joining any club and even faced obstruction initially to join his state team's training.

Recalling his struggling days, Sanklecha revealed that being extremely frustrated he even thought of quitting cricket and decided to join his father's spice shops in Ahmednagar in Maharashtra.

After his return to the main stream cricket, the right-hand medium pacer has set another example in the last couple of years. He has been an inspiration to his teammates by his accurate bowling and consistency even at the age of 34 years.

More importantly, his dedication at this age has been mesmerizing his teammates. One of his close friends in Maharashtra, Ankit said,"Still to this day, Anupam is the first cricketer to enter the ground for training and is the last man to leave the ground."

Anupam, when asked about the mystery of his dedication at this age, laughed and said,"Actually I am passionate about the game. I always enjoy whenever I play. That has been my biggest motivation. This apart, I often think about my struggling days and it gives me boost."

Maharashtra defeated Vidarbha in style on Tuesday (Nov 15) in its Ranji Trophy group league match at the Eden Gardens, courtesy Anupam who had a magnificent bowling by taking total 14 wickets in the match.

The pacer also represents an English minor club during his off-season in Indian cricket.

Anupam said,"Playing in England has helped me to learn controlling the swing. And that is the reason I have been able to perform in Ranji Trophy. I want to take 40 wickets this season."
