    Akbar Padamsee, Jehangir Sabavala rare work up for auction at Christie's annual art sale

    The year-ender sale of global auction house Christie’s is set to take place in Mumbai on December 18.

    Connoisseurs, gear up for a hectic year-end, with back-to-back arts and sports memorabilia auctions lined up by renowned global and Indian auction houses. We have put together a catalogue to help you keep track of the upcoming events.
    November 17
    The Fine Art Sale, Pundole’s
    Pundole’s fine art sale will see around 93 lots going under the hammer. Some of the works up for auction will be of masters like Rabindranath Tagore, Vasudeo Gaitonde, Amrita Sher-Gil and Jamini Roy. The highlight, however, is a rare artwork by Raja Ravi Varma, ‘Radha in the Moonlight’. Painted in 1890, the piece carries an estimate of Rs 8-12 crore.

    November 22
    South Asian art sale, Bonhams
    British auctioneers Bonhams will be unveiling the Modern and Contemporary South Asian art sale on November 22. Held in London, the highlights of the sale include Bhupen Khakhar’s 1979 piece ‘Man in Pub’ pegged at £250,000-350,000. Untitled works of Rabindranath Tagore and Pakistani artist Abdul Rahman Chughtai will also be up for grabs.

    The Ties That Bind: South Asian Modern And Contemporary Art, Saffronart

    Modern and contemporary works spanning important art movements across South Asia will be a part of the online auction put together by Mumbai-based Saffronart. A section is dedicated to MF Husain’s works.

    December 8
    Classical Indian art, Saffronart
    Saffronart will host a live auction of classical Indian art comprising paintings and sculptures from across ancient India. Details of the lots haven’t been made public yet.

    December 7
    Sports Memorabilia, Kathiawada Arts and Sports
    The scion of Kathiawada royal family and trustee of the Kathiawada Foundation, Digvijay Sinh Kathiawada, and wife Swati are bringing together a collection of 63 memorabilia from different sports. The auction, which will be held at CCI, Mumbai, will include a bat signed by the Indian team after winning the 2013 Champions Trophy, a chess board signed by grandmaster Viswanathan Anand and a 1911 frame of the first All-India cricket team that went to UK. The collection starts from Rs 70,000 going up to Rs 5 lakh.

    Christie’s annual art sale

    The year-ender sale of global auction house Christie’s is set to take place at Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, Mumbai, on December 18. With 150 lots up for grabs, the fourth auction sale this year will have 41 pieces by avid collectors Abhishek and Radhika Poddar. Miniature paintings from Colonel RK Tandan's collection and art works by Syed Haider Raza, Akbar Padamsee, Jehangir Sabavala and Bhupen Khakhar will be part of the auction.
