CPM central committee meet in January to decide on VS Achuthanandan

PB panel against action on veteran leader

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPM central committee meeting taking place in the state in January will take a decision on the politburo commission recommendations in connection with internal issues concerning Kerala and the allegations against veteran leader V.S. Achuthanandan. The PB Commission report was placed before the politburo meeting in Delhi on Tuesday. The report will be discussed in detail at the next politburo meeting. The meeting on Tuesday could not discuss the report in detail in view of the issues relating to demonetisation of currency. The politburo meeting which was earlier planned for two days, was restricted to one day following the Parliament Session beginning on Wednesday.

The commission looking into the Kerala party’s internal issues is believed to have decided not to recommend any action against Achuthanandan. The PB commission is not in favour of any disciplinary action against the veteran leader on two counts; firstly the issues taken up by the commission were old and not quite relevant today. Secondly, the commission is keen to uphold the spirit of the party Congress directive to ensure unity in the party. Moreover, the veteran leader had played a crucial role in installing the LDF government. Though Mr Achuthanandan is a special invitee to the central committee, the central committee meeting in January will take a call on inducting him into the state secretariat.
