Chhapra: In a poignant rebuff to antisocial elements spreading rumours following demonetization of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes last week, Chhapra’s Dr R B Sinha convened a presser on Tuesday to declare, “I am alive.”
The press meet, first of its kind in recent memory, was necessitated as rumour mills ran overnight, saying taxmen were raiding local doctors in search of unaccounted cash and, as such, some of them had suffered cardiac arrests.
The rumours had been going viral on the social media since Friday.
“I was serving patients at my clinic when I saw the list of such doctors. I felt hurt,” Dr Sinha said and added his staff even received inquiries from patients as to whom should they consult now that Dr Sinha was no more.
The doctor said the rumourmongers had tarnished his reputation. “I have expectations from the media... You should get to the truth and expose these antisocial elements and their sinister design,” he said.
The rumours, incidentally, also targeted other medical practitioners, including Dr Renu Kashyap and Dr Pradeep Kumar.
