Art Master Plan to turn a reality soon

Art Master Plan to turn a reality soon
NEW DELHI: Delhi Urban Art Commission (DUAC) is working on the capital’s first Art Master Plan that is expected to be ready by early next year. Sources said the detailed master plan, a first for any Indian city, is aimed at making sure that public art is promoted.
“This could open the doors for other cities to follow suit. But there are many issues that must be worked out, like who owns the land, where will the art come up, who will bear the expenditure for maintenance, and guidelines on how public art should be,” said an official.
The Art Master Plan was supposed to be finalised this year, but officials said that it ran into delays.
“All mega cities in the US have a master plan that states how public art should come up in the city. Delhi has a good potential for street art, but there are no guidelines to define them,” the official added.
“We expect this Art Master Plan to be included in Delhi’s master plan as a separate chapter. The current master plan will lapse in 2021, so the Art Master Plan can be incorporated into the new one. It will then become a law and will have to be implemented,” said DUAC chairperson Prof PSN Rao.
