fiogf49gjkf0d Stressing on the need to create Brand India in the food sector (in line with prime minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Make in India), Harsimrat Kaur Badal, minister for food processing industries, stated that it was imperative that strong Indian food brands were created that would drive the demand across product categories. She was speaking at the tenth essay of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) Foodworld India in New Delhi.
The event was supported by the ministry of food processing industries (MoFPI) and the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), and attended by over 200 delegates, including Sangeeta Pendurkar, managing director, Kellogg India Pvt Ltd; Sanjay Sharma, chief executive officer, MTR Foods Pvt Ltd; Siva Nagarajan, managing director, Mother Dairy Fruit & Vegetable Pvt Ltd, and Siraj Chaudhry, chairman, Cargill India.
The Indian processed food industry, which was believed to have been marred by a number of roadblocks a couple of years ago, is at a critical juncture. In order to promote the food processing industry to the next level, it has to increase the level of processing and exploit the potential of the domestic and international markets.
Badal said, “Now the mood has turned around for good. India is the fastest-growing economy and among the top destinations for foreign direct investment (FDI) globally.”
“The world has a lot of enthusiasm for India food processing, retail, machine manufacturing and several allied sectors. This is our opportunity to become a global sourcing food hub,” she added. The minister announced and invited ideas for World Food Fair, which is slated to take place in November 2017 and will showcase India’s strengths.
