The Agriculture ministry has taken steps to eradicate counterfeit products in agrovets.

Ministry Director of Crop Resources, Agribusiness and Market Development Johnson Waithaka said the ministry has established a Horticulture Competent Authority Structure. It monitors agrovets to ensure they do not stock counterfeit products.

The ministry has also deployed extension officers to ensure farmers buy quality products.

Waithaka on Friday warned that any organisation or individual violating the law will be prosecuted.

He said the ministry has developed a strategy to reduce residue of pesticides and othe r products in produce.

“Through the strategy, we have achieved enhanced food safety standards, thus reducing interceptions and notifications for export products,” Waithaka said. The programme will start in 10 counties next year.

He spoke at a Nairobi hotel in the inauguration of County Level Workshops and Expos.
