Rabuka wants holidays to bring Fijians together(Bruce Hill)

The leader of Fiji's main opposition party says the country ought to celebrate Ratu Sukuna Day again.

SODELPA leader Sitiveni Rabuka's SVT government instituted the day in memory of Fijian statesman Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna in 1992, but it was scrapped in 2010 by the present Prime Minister, Frank Bainimarama.

Mr Rabuka says he was thinking about the role national holidays might play in bringing Fiji's communities together while attending the 100th anniversary of the arrival of the last boatload if indentured Indian labourers in Fiji, called girmityas.
