BMTC bags World's Healthy Workplace Award, 2016

Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) added another feather to its cap, winning the World Healthy Workplace Award under gold category at Arogya World Healthy Workplace Conference out of 500 government and private companies that were evaluated.

BENGALURU: Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) added another feather to its cap, winning the World Healthy Workplace Award under gold category at Arogya World Healthy Workplace Conference out of 500 government and private companies that were evaluated.
BMTC, the sole public bus transport provider of Bengaluru with a strength of 6418 buses, 35,226 staffs and over 22,000 drivers and conductors, has enforced restriction on smoking or using any form of tobacco among the employees, organised 45-day-long free de-addiction treatment course with sanctioned leave and follow-up sessions for its alcoholic employees, and promoted use of stairs and participation in sports and exercise to improve the quality of life and health of its employees.

BMTC has also launched a month-long diabetes campaign for its staff and other citizens, marking World Diabetes Day. It has provided stress management counselling to its employees, allotted women employees with light work and no night shifts, set up leave management kiosks enabling employees to manage their leaves smoothly, provided scholarship to their children, arranged summer camps, and rewarded drivers for accident-free drives. BMTC has been rewarded at India International Centre, New Delhi for being world's healthy workplace.
