A-10The U.S. Air Force wants to test four aircraft platforms from Textron, Embraer and Leonardo-Finmeccanica in an effort to augment the service branch’s fleet of A-10 Warthogs, The Witchita Eagle reported Wednesday.

Jerry Siebenmark writes the Air Force Strategic Development Planning and Experimentation office looks to conduct a 135-day test of Textron’s Scorpion jet and AT-6 Wolverine as well as Embraer’s A-29 Super Tucano and a variant of Leonardo-Finmeccanica’s Alenia Aermacchi M-346.

An Air Force spokeswoman said the military branch does not have detailed plans on the light attack experimentation since the project is still at the consideration stage, according to the report.

Siebenmark reports that Textron will assess whether its platforms meet the Air Force’s needs once the service branch finalizes testing requirements.
