HYDERABAD: Taking a cue from Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board, the Hyderabad police have asked motorists to clear traffic challan dues with demonetised currency notes.
On Sunday, Hyderabad DCP-I (traffic) LS Chauhan issued a press release informing people that traffic challan dues could be cleared for two days with demonetised '500 and '1000 currency notes.
“At eSeva, Mee Seva centres, Bill Desk, Andhra Bank, SBI, ICICI Bank and traffic compounding booth in Basheerbagh, people can pay traffic challan dues with old '500 and '1000 currency notes till Monday evening,“ the DCP said.
These centres are being kept open in the weekend too. However, challan pay ments worth only '2.3 lakh were made on Sunday as fewer people turned up on a holiday. Before the demonetisation move, the traffic police could collect challan payments of around '10 lakh per day. After the demonetisation move, the daily payment drastically fell and has not crossed the '3 lakh mark. “About 80% traffic challan payments are made through cash at Mee Seva, eSeva centres and authorised banks. For the convenience of people, we have made the offer of taking old currency notes,“ the DCP added.
