Ba coach Imdad Ali could not have wished for a better birthday present for his wife than the Vodafone Premier League title after his side’s 1-1 draw with Labasa at Govind Park yesterday.

His wife Tara celebrated her birthday and Ali said preparations would now begin for the Oceania Football Championship (O-League).

In a match which saw Ba striker Saula Waqa red carded for a crude tackle on Manasa Levaci, the game was marred at times with foul play

Ba striker Samuela Nabenia probably had the best opportunity in the match when he was left with an open goalmouth but missed.

WHAT HAPPENED:

Both teams came into the match determined to win.

Ba wanted a win to end their season on a high while Labasa probably wanted to emulate what their Northern counterpart Dreketi achieved on Friday when they beat Ba 2-1

The first half saw many opportunities being created by both sides but stern defending and lack of finishing ended the spell goalless.

The second spell was more aggressive and at times marred with unnecessary fouls.

Labasa failed to capitalise on a 10- man opposition with Ilisoni Logaivau’s shot hitting the post.

COMMENTS

Labasa coach Ronil Lal was happy with the performance. “Good 2016 season for us.”

Ali applauds 4R Electrical boss Rishi Kumar;

“He has been there for the players and because of him and his family, Ba is where it is today.”
