Luck was on Nadi’s side as they beat Labasa 2-1 during the Vodafone Premier League at Prince Charles Park in Nadi yesterday.

The team from the Jetset town came out firing after Labasa striker Gabrieli Matanisiga drew first blood early in the second half.

Nadi team director Javed Ahmed said they didn’t play well in their last few games as some players were either injured or suspended.

“We had a good training this week just for this game and luckily some of our players who were suspended came back to play.  “This is also a build-up for the Pacific Cup because as defending champions we should be in top form,” Ahmed said.

“We were a bit to tense in the first half. We have good strikers and need to work on our finishing.”

In the first half Labasa goalkeeper and captain Akuila Mateisuva was red carded for deliberately touching the ball.

Nadi captain Napolioni Qasevakatini scored from the free kick before Waisake Tabuacavu sealed the win.

Labasa coach Ronil Lal said they played well even though they were a man down.

“We had young players and that’s a plus for us and we will continue to build and grow.
