DoE asks E Delhi school to pay teachers in a month
New Delhi: Post a contempt notice, directorate of education issued an order to Laxmi Public School in Karkardooma to pay the teachers as per sixth pay commission within 30 days. The teachers who were fighting for their rights will now get arrears from 2006.
TOI first carried the story after with deputy CM Manish Sisodia intervened and an inquiry was initiated. Earlier on September 2, 2016, the Delhi high court while hearing a petition by the teachers of the school asked the DoE to dispose off the grievances by a reasoned order within six weeks.

Forty-two teachers of Laxmi Public School in east Delhi have been fighting against the school administration, claiming that they have not been paid as per the stipulated provisions of the commission. The teachers approached Sisodia, who asked the DoE to inquire.
On September 2, the HC ordered DoE to pass an order on the matter within six weeks. However, with no order passed within the stipulated time, a contempt notice was sent to the directorate on October 26, 2016 by advocate Ashok Agarwal. Following this, the DoE on October 31, 2016 passed an order.
In the order, the directorate countered that the school said that it had implemented the commission report with effect from September 1, 2008. However, they had contended that due to paucity of funds, arrears from January 1, 2006 to August 31, 2008 could not be paid.
“However, preliminary examination of the financials of the school was carried out by chartered accountants detailed with this committee. Their calculations showed that apparently, the school had sufficient funds to implement the sixth pay commission, to the extent it was implemented and there was no need for it to hike any fee,” DoE said in its order.
