Two characters are almost always seen wearing a bow tie – a debonair dude or a clown. Remember the don’ts before donning the bow tie to not skew towards the latter. A bow tie is a statement, and a strong one at that. You need certain je ne sais quoi to carry this strong accessory. And it’s important to get it right, as you will be noticed by everyone.
Pick your type
Just like normal ties, bow ties too are available in three main types – self-tied, pre-tied and clip-on. Again, like normal ties, the most fashionable ones are self-tied – but keep it reserved for special occasions.

Never wear it loose
The most important rule of a bow tie is to never wear it loose. You might get away with a loose tie, but a bow tie has to be up there always.
Tie is the star
It’s a strong statement and should be kept the focal element. Keep the rest of the look muted.
Hot tip: A classic bow tie works best with solid blue, black or grey suits.
