BHOPAL: Eight pilgrims were killed after a tractor-trolley overturned in
Satna district of Madhya Pradesh.
All the eight, along with other villagers were going to Maihar from Fatehpur in a
tractor trolley when the accident took place.The incident took place near
Sonaura crossing, situated at a distance of around 1 kilometre from Kothi police station at around 5 am.Besides these eight, 20 others have sustained injuries four of it are said to be critical, said police.
All of these people hail from Sarauli area of Fatehpur district of Uttar Pradesh. All were coming to offer prayers at the
Sharda Devi Shrine in Maihar.
The deceased have been identified as Ram Dulari Sengar, 65, Surekha Singh, 28, her son Pradyuman, 12, Sonam Singh, 16, Ganesh Kori, 38, Yogendra Singh, 21 and Nanki Singh, 65.
Injured have been admitted at district hospital in Satna district. Police said that probably the driver of the bus, took a nap while driving and the vehicle overturned colliding head on with a shop.
Driver of the tractor trolley, Dhunni Singh has been arrested and booked under section 304 A (negligence causing death) of the Indian Penal Code and investigations are going on.
Satna district administration has announced Rs 5000 as immediate assistance for performing the last rites of the deceased. The administration also arranged for ambulance so that the bodies could be sent for post-mortem.
