SG Road hit-and-run: Youth surrenders

AHMEDABAD: A 19-year-old youth surrendered to N Division traffic police station in Satellite on Thursday in connection with a hit-and-run case that took place on November 5.
Janet Thomas, 67, a resident of Mumbai, had come to her daughter’s home in Satellite. When she was crossing the SG Road from near Iscon Mega Mall at 5pm on November 5 along with her granddaughter Prisha, 15, a car came from the direction of Iscon Crossroads and hit the duo.
Thomas fell on the road and sustained severe head and body injuries. She died during treatment the same night.
N Division traffic police said that Siddhant Raghuvanshi, 19, a resident of Shilaj, has surrendered to police in this connection. Siddhant is son of a senior officer in a city-based pharmaceutical company and was using the car issued by the company to travel with his friends. He has been released on bail on Friday.
B M Lashkari, inspector of N Division traffic police station, said that Siddhant studies in second year of BBA course in Pune and had come on a visit to Ahmedabad on that day. “In his primary statement, he has mentioned that he had got panicked after the incident and had fled from the spot after an ambulance had arrived at the spot. He had been to Pune for exam and had come back after it got over to surrender,” he said, adding that he has been booked for causing death by negligence.
