Abohar, November 11

Jagdish Khan (60) and his son Feroze Khan (22), who had consumed insecticide on November 9 near a canal in Sriganganagar, were cremated today. Jagdish Khan, in his suicide note, stated that it was not possible for him to afford the treatment of Feroze, who was suffering from tuberculosis (TB). Jagdish, a daily wage earner, had been collecting money to take his son Feroze for treatment to Bikaner and sometimes, he was not able to even arrange travel expenses.

Former CPM MLA Pawan Duggal and district Congress’ former president Kuldeep Indora had joined the protest by locals who alleged that the Health Department had not ensured free treatment for Feroze and poverty forced the father-son duo to commit suicide.

The administration agreed to get Rs 50,000 sanctioned from CM Relief Fund for kin of each deceased. A plot and Rs 1.5 lakh for the construction over it will be released by the Panchayat Samiti. — OC
